LEDs are changing the way we illuminate the nighttime environment. This two-day course will cover LEDs in detail as a source to consider for exterior applications based on their long life, extended maintenance cycles, and lower energy consumption in comparison to traditional lighting sources. Participants will study exterior lighting design and principles for nighttime applications and evaluate the operating characteristics of fixtures designed for exterior use. Exterior lighting legislation such as Model Lighting Ordinance, BUG Rating, and testing methodologies (LM79, LM80 and TM21) will be covered. This course is ideal for those involved in the design/specification or the energy management of exterior spaces, and for those looking to gain a better understanding of what to use in their unique applications.

This two-day introduction to residential lighting design will be explored from a lighting designer’s perspective. Participants will learn to apply design techniques that use today’s technologies. The class will study lamps and LEDs and their operating characteristics, luminaires in applications, and an introduction to control systems. The class project allows participants to analyze a variety of lighting techniques in both theory and practice. LEED, ENERGY STAR^®, and legislation for residential design will be reviewed. It’s a great class to help prepare for the CLC certification exam.
